Zarya Hernandez Salto

Career Launch Coordinator

Zarya joined ReadyCT to aid and support and encourage youth to pursue and persist with postsecondary educational planning. Her passion has always been to provide resources and services to young students, especially those in minority and underrepresented communities.

Previously, Zarya has worked with a wide range of children and students. She was involved as a peer mentor at the University of Connecticut (UConn), where she assisted incoming first-year and transfer students with the social, educational, and emotional aspects of campus life by providing them with resources and support. She has also worked as an advanced placement (AP) proctor for West Hartford Public Schools, mentoring and supporting high school students through the AP testing process.  Additionally, she interned at the Department of Children and Families in Hartford, providing resources to mixed-status families and undocumented individuals.

Zarya holds a B.A. in human development and family sciences/Latino and Latin American studies from UConn. Originally a Chicago native, she now resides in West Hartford, CT. Outside of ReadyCT, you will find her either baking, reading, watching horror movies, or traveling. Her future plans include obtaining a master’s degree in school counseling.

“Today’s children are the future of our world. Their education is the driving force of both their lives and our lives. It is because of this, that I believe they deserve the utmost care and attention. With the proper guidance, support, and care, they can become the most successful and best versions of themselves.”
