CGA Education Committee Announces 2020 Agenda

February 11, 2020 • Uncategorized

On February 10, CGA Education Committee Co-Chairs Sen. Douglas McCrory and Rep. Bobby Sanchez stood alongside lawmakers, educators, and advocates — including ReadyCT Executive Director Shannon Marimón — to announce the Committee’s 2020 agenda. You can read the CGA press release here.

The Education Committee’s agenda for the 2020 session includes:

  • the opportunity gap
  • diversity in the teaching profession
  • reading literacy
  • financial literacy
  • eligibility for the Care4Kids program

Shannon Marimón was one of several who addressed the crowd at the announcement; her remarks focused on developing a statewide model curriculum, an idea that ReadyCT believes can support many policies common to the Committee and to ReadyCT. The Committee’s agenda aligns with key components of ReadyCT’s 2020 policy priorities. Those priorities include:

  • effective literacy instruction
  • greater access to high-quality career-themed learning
  • more opportunity for transferable dual-enrollment courses
  • stronger investment in school and district leadership

While not identical, the education agendas of both the legislature and ReadyCT are geared toward advancing academic excellence and career-connected learning for all public school students in Connecticut. We welcome the opportunity to work with organizations and individuals across sectors to advance this important work.
